Boll Weevil reopens after kitchen fire

Boll Weevil restaurant at 2548 Main St., reopened on Wednesday, after a small kitchen fire occurred on Monday afternoon.

Cal Fire/Ramona Battalion Chief Saul Villagomez said the call came in at 1:30 p.m. and the first unit arrived about six minutes later to find the smoke coming out of the  restaurant.

People in the restaurant reported the fire was coming from behind the grill, said Villagomez.

Boll Weevil staff activated the kitchen fire system to extinquish the fire.

“Fire crews contained the fire to the kitchen only. No extension to the restaurant,” said the battalion chief.

After extinguishing the fire, crews applied positive pressure ventilation to remove smoke from the restaurant.

The last fire crews left at 2:42 p.m., he said, adding he did not have a damage estimate.
