The California Highway Patrol was investigating a vehicle fatality in a remote section of San Diego County today.

It was not immediately known how many people or vehicles were involved in a fatality that occurred on eastbound Montezuma Road near mile marker 7 just outside Borrego Springs about 2:20 p.m.

Officers shut down eastbound lanes of Montezuma Road between Chimney Rock and Borrego Desert Lookout for an indefinite period of time, a CHP dispatcher said.
