Girls lose two basketball games on the road

Ramona High’s girls basketball team hit the road and lost to Poway and Torrey Pines in Palomar League action.

Water district increases contract with engineering firm

Following a reorgnization at the Ramona Municipal Water District that eliminated two full-time positions—one being engineering, the water board has approved a $120,000 increase to its service agreement with an Encinitas-based engineering firm.

RMWD entered into a contract for the engineering services of Dudek and Associates on an as-needed basis in July 2011 for a not-to-exceed amount of $180,000.

A big crowd turned out for wrestling’s Senior Night in the Dawg House, but Torrey Pines didn’t. It is ironic that a school with such a fine athletic tradition can’t field a full wrestling team.

Torrey Pines could only field seven wrestlers out of 14 weight classes and only managed to win one bout as the Bulldogs prevailed 71-4 in a Palomar League match.

Ramona Jiu Jitsu earns grand championship

The Ramona Brazilian Jiu Jitsu team closed out the year with an overall grand championship.

Members of the RBJJ team were invited to Grappling X’s Tournament of Champions, which showcased the talents of competitors from the entire western United States.

The Bulldogs’ boys basketball team went on the road and the road was not kind to them as they lost to Poway and Torrey Pines in Palomar League action. The Dawgs are now 7-13 on the season and 0-4 in the Palomar League.

In an effort to get Palomar Mountain State Park off the closure list, citizens are pitching in financially to keep the park afloat — and it looks like they just might pull it off.

Water Dawgs fall short at Mount Carmel and Poway

The league losing streak for Ramona High School’s girls water polo team reached five games with Palomar League losses Jan. 24 at Mount Carmel and Jan. 26 at Poway.

“We didn’t do as well as we would have liked,” said Coach Donnie Williams.

The team has an overall season record of 11-9 and a 1-5 Palomar League statistic.
