Between the Bookends: Celebrate a favorite book — in an edible sort of way

Celebrate your favorite book by creating an edible version and entering it in the Edible Book Contest at the library. The contest is open to all ages and entries will be judged in categories based on age.

Judging will be at the library on Nov. 30 at 4 p.m. See library staff for contest details.

Ramona Community Library is at 1275 Main Street, with parking in the rear. It opens at 9:30 a.m. Mondays through Saturdays and closes Mondays and Wednesdays at 6 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays at 5 p.m.

The November calendar of events and programs can be picked up in the library.


Baby Lapsit Storytime: (Ages 0-18 months) Story time, rhymes, songs and movements that will entertain your infant. Bring your infants and enjoy a special time together on Mondays, Nov. 21, and Nov. 28, at 11:30 a.m.

Preschool Storytime: Enjoy a fun story on Wednesdays, Nov. 16, 23 and 30, at 11 a.m. followed by crafts for your toddler to make at 11:30 a.m.

Toddlers Storytime: Bring your toddler for some interactive stories on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. Library will be closed for Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 24.

Grandparents and Books: Stories are read from a selection of favorite children’s books on Thursdays at 11 a.m.


Homework Club: For all ages Monday through Thursday at 4 p.m.

Ramona Library Chess Team: All skill levels and beginners welcome. Ages 10-18 years old. Meets on Tuesdays, 3:30 p.m.

Teen Music Shop: Program is for teens Ages 15+ for musicians, vocalists, writers to collaborate and share ideas. Bring in your gear, or use the equipment on hand. On Friday, Nov. 18, 3 p.m. at the Community Room Stage.

Teen Video Game Arcade: (Grades 6-12) Video game challenge on our flat screen in the Teen Area. Bring your friends to play popular games on gaming consoles on Saturday, Nov. 26, at 1 p.m.


The Harvest Queen: Fun fall storytelling for the whole family with Mary Beach on Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 5 p.m.

Pajama Storytime: Enjoy time with your family at the new library during pajama storytime every Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Family Crafts: Bring the whole family to make interesting arts and crafts projects every Friday at 3:15 p.m. All ages welcome. The library will be closed on Friday, Nov. 25.

Yoga: Bring your mat for instruction in Hatha Yoga on Fridays, 11 a.m. All ages welcome.


Adult Book Club: Will review “The Mistress of Nothing” by Kate Pullinger on Monday, Nov. 28, at 1 p.m. There will be refreshments for those in attendance.

National Latino Research Center: Group meeting on Mondays, at 5 p.m.

LEARN: Learn the newest citizenship test format and how to fill it out and practice the civic questions. Call 760-643-5144 or come to class to register. Mondays at 6 p.m.

Tai Chi: Instructor-led Tai Chi classes for adults in the Auerbach Community Room on Thursdays at 9 a.m.

Diabetes Workshop: Discussion and information on this helath subject on Thursday, Nov. 17, at 10 a.m.

Bilingual Spanish Computer Helpers: Instruction for beginners on Thursdays at 6 p.m. Call 760-788-5270 for appointment.

The Library and “Open Book” bookstore will be closed Thanksgiving Thursday, Nov. 24, and Friday, Nov. 25.

Friends of Ramona Library: The Friends of Ramona Library annual board meeting will be on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 2 p.m. in the Auerbach Community Room in the library. There will be a presentation and travel slide show by Betty Blaydes Pegas, author of “Chasing a Dream in the Galapagos: A Personal Evolution.” Additional board members will be selected. Everyone in the community is encouraged to participate. There will be refreshments after the meeting. The new website,, has The Friendly Waves newsletter with library news posted.

Friends Bookstore: This month’s book sale will be on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The special bargain is a half-price sale. Come in and see what you can find. In addition to paperback and hardback books, there is also a selection of classic books and specialty books with various prices. Bookstore hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Do you have extra time? Consider being a volunteer at this fabulous bookstore.
