This is an amazing story. Vernon was my Grandfather, and from what I've been told an outstanding man. To find the dog tag was a miracle and my mom and I sat here a couple of nights ago talking about him and her memory of that day.

She saw the smoke from her school window and had a gut wrenching feeling that was, unfortunately, confirmed when she got home that day. We have old reels of video, showing what life was like back then for him and his family and I've had three large photos of him flying with his "boys" on my wall for my whole life. Thanks to these fine folks, we also have the twisted dog tags that wrap up this story.
