See ‘The Thing,’ aid mural project
By S. Elaine Lyttleton
Anyone who has travelled Route 66 through Arizona has likely seen a big bright garish sign, advertising “See The Thing!”
For 50 cents tourists are invited to stop to view a mysterious “Thing” inside the building. Viewers are sworn to secrecy about what they saw, so the next visitors will experience the shock and awe at the sight of The Thing.
Well, on Oct. 31 from 3 to 6 p.m., the thousands of people who participate in the annual Trick-or-Treat on Main Street, will also have a chance to see The Thing, right here in downtown Ramona.
Stop by Town and Country Real Estate at 976 Main St. on the corner of 10th and Main streets and for 50 cents you, too, can see The Thing.
This is a fundraising event for the Ramona H.E.A.R.T. Mural Project, and all proceeds will go toward the project, which has the mission of encouraging economic vitality by increasing tourism, promoting community pride, and celebrating Ramona’s rich cultural heritage through an outdoor visual arts mural tour program.
The group plans to launch the first mural before the end of 2011, and the community’s support is crucial to reaching the ambitious goal of creating 30 murals in the next five years. So even if you’re not a Trick-or-Treater, stop by to see The Thing for yourself and make a donation of as little as 50 cents to this cause.
