Republican Women start new season

Intermountain Republican Women Federated will kick off its 2011-12 season with its fall fundraiser Barbecue Dinner at Schwaesdall Winery at 5:45 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 26. Reservations for the dinner must be made by Tuesday, Sept. 20.

In addition to the dinner, there will be a silent auction for a handmade patriotic quilt, a country framed photo and many gift baskets. Money raised at the Welcome Back event will go to the club’s Scholarship Program.

Assemblyman Brian Jones and Michael Hayutin, chapter leader of Act! For America, will be guest speakers. Jones, a longtime resident of East County, was elected to the Santee City Council in November 2002 and re-elected in 2006. Through private and public sector experiences, he said he has developed the strong convictions he holds in free market principals and the need for government reform to eliminate red tape and reduce taxes.

A Santee resident since 1978, Jones is a member of Boys and Girls Club Board and a member of the South Bay Rod and Gun Club. He was elected to the Assembly in 2010 and represents for the 77th District.

Hayutin earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and communications at the University of Southern California. His talk is titled “Sharia, Islam and the War Against Jihad” — what you need to know about Islam implications of radical Islam, why much of media do not get it, successful tactics to win the war, properly identifying the enemy without becoming a bigot, what each person can do to protect freedom.

Schwaesdall Winery is at 17677 Rancho de Oro Road off state Route 67. Those attending are encouraged to bring a flashlight.

Cost is $15 per person, and reservations are by last names: Ramona A-L, call Alicia Gonzales, 760-788-3626; Ramona M-Z, call Sean Tenwolde, 760-788-6645; and Julian area, call Sean Tenwolde, 760-788-6645. For more information, contact Sallie McKelvey at 760-789-7332 or salliemac1@att.net.
