Ally Harvey and Kailey Hill are teammates in two sports. Last week they teamed up to lead the Lady Bulldog golf team to victories over former Avocado League and Valley League rivals San Pasqual and Oceanside.

Against San Pasqual Harvey and Hill each shot a 44 on the front nine at the San Vicente Golf Resort to lead the Lady Dawgs to a 252-264 win over the Eagles.

Emily Vandervort beat her counterpart by five strokes as she carded a 48. Kambria Fitting shot a 56 to tie her counterpart. Caitlyn Doulgeropoulos completed the scoring with a 60 to beat her foe by two strokes. Courtney Kiesel shot a non-scoring 66.

Harvey and Hill bounced back to share medalist honors as they shaved two strokes off their scores against Oceanside as the Lady Dawgs beat the Pirates 233-256.

Harvey and Hill shot 42, but they were not the only Ramona High golfers who shaved strokes from their scores. Fitting dropped nine strokes from her score to shoot a 47. Vandervort also shot a 47 and dropped one stroke off her previous score.

Kia Turner shot a 55 and Doulgeropoulos fired a 61 as the Lady Bulldogs shaved 19 strokes from their team total in one day.

The heat on the course reached 105, so Coach John Rathbun took a page from Kipling and played Gunga Din. Rathbun loaded up his golf cart with ice water and made sure all the golfers stayed hydrated and cool in the heat.

The power outage hit as Oceanside and Ramona teed up, but the Lady Bulldogs provided their own power and started their season with two wins.

Coach Rathbun was all smiles and had praise for his team.

“To improve 19 strokes in one day is phenomenal,” he said. “We knew we had to improve to beat Oceanside, and we did. The girls deserve all of the credit.”
