Accident triggers road closure

an accident involving a Border Patrol SUV and a pickup truck.

The accident was reported at 2:33 p.m. on Tuesday.

CHP Officer Joe Nielson said the Border Patrol SUV was westbound and a pick-up truck was traveling eastbound by the curve on Route 78 near Feghali Road when one of the vehicles crossed over the double yellow line. The impact caused damage to the left rear of the pick-up truck and the left front of the SUV.

Nielson said the agent who was driving the SUV exited the vehicle and collapsed on the ground. He was transported by Mercy Air to Palomar Medical Center.

Another Border Patrol agent in truck was not injured and no injuries were reported from anyone in the pickup truck, said Nielson.

The cause of the accident was under investigation.
