PowPAC schedules ‘Rainmaker’ auditions

PowPAC, Poway’s community theater, has scheduled auditions for “The Rainmaker” for August.

Mary L. Smith will direct the classic romantic comedy written by N. Richard Nash. Produced by Lynn Wolsey, the show has parts for six men and one woman.

Auditions will be held upstairs in the Lively Center at 13250 Poway Road in Poway on Monday, Aug. 22, and Tuesday, Aug. 23, at 7 p.m. Callbacks, if needed, will be on Wednesday, Aug. 24, at 7 p.m.

The play will run from Friday, Oct. 21, through Sunday, Nov. 20.

The cast includes:

•Lizzie Curry (age 25-45), an unmarried woman, very unsure of herself, living with her two brothers and father in the Midwest. Has believed her whole life that she is just plain.

•Bill Starbuck (age 25-45), con man or dreamer? An outgoing, charismatic character.

•File (age 25-45), newer deputy in town, comes with a secret past. Likes Lizzie.

•Jim Curry (age 18-30), Lizzie’s younger brother. Good-looking, but not a lot upstairs.

•Noah Curry (age 30-45), Lizzie’s older brother. A realist and very controlling. Cannot see life beyond his accounting books. Has no dreams or imagination.

•H.C. Curry (age 55-75), very loving father. Wants to believe that Starbuck can work miracles.

•Sheriff Thomas (age 40-70), county sheriff, an experienced professional with a streak of wisdom.
