Girls U15 Intra soccer team debuts in charity cup

By Julie Njaa

Two Ramona Intra soccer teams have united under the direction of professional coach Justin “JJ” Jordan and high school coach Deena Vizcarra.

Players on the new Girls Under 15 team made their debut in their first tournament, the San Diego Charity Cup, June 18-19, competing with teams that have played together for possibly years.

The girls advanced to the semifinals with two wins, and two ties, losing only to a Penalty Kick Shoot-out. The team was undefeated, with no goals scored against it throughout the tournament.

Goals for Ramona were scored by Karli Njaa, Katherine Lorentz and Daniela Charbonneau. Outstanding defense play came from goalie Taylor Stacy and the defense team: Megan Vandervort, Sasha Escamilla, Shelby Sherman, Sydney Marin and Danielle Vizcarra.

“With only a few weeks playing together, the girls were focused on their individual technical skills and game strategy. This team has depth and talent.” said Coach JJ.

The girls’ parents also expressed their enthusiasm for this team and the direction the girls are heading. This is expected to be an exciting year for the Ramona Intra Club.

Ramona Intra GU15 will be heading to Huntington Beach to play in the Xtreme Cup on July 23-24.
