Sponsors contributed to entertaining dog show

The Kiwanis Club of Ramona’s 7th Annual Bow Wow Pow Wow Fun Dog Show, held Saturday, June 11, was highly entertaining to all in attendance at the Ramona Outdoor Community Center. The dogs along with their companions were highly entertaining. It was once again a fun filled day and a successful event.

On behalf of Kiwanis of Ramona, thank you to all who contributed to the success of this event. Proceeds benefit Kiwanis Community Services including scholarships, Children’s Hospital and Ramona’s Emergency Animal Rescue.

We especially thank our sponsors Backcountry Press-Darrell Beck, Elston Hay & Grain, EasyTurf, Ramona Food & Clothes Closet, Ken Dower, Mountain Valley Ranch, and Xanthus Real Estate & Management Co.

In addition to the dog contest, the event included a silent auction and opportunity drawing. Businesses that donated were Adobe Animal Hospital, All About Fun RV Rental, Animal Pharm, Birch Aquarium, Boll Weevil Restaurant, City Barber, D’Carlos, Danny’s Truck & Auto, Diamond D Feed & Supply, High Valley Veterinary Hospital, Kahoots Animals & Supplies, Kritter Kamp Kennels, Laund-Yer-Mutt, Main Street Auto, Mane Event Beauty Salon, Ransom Brothers, Ron’s Tire & Brake, The San Diego Chargers, San Vicente Golf Resort Lodge and The Oaks Grill, SeaWorld Adventure Park, Sizzler Restaurant, U.S.S. Midway Museum, Webb Pool & Spa, and Wilma Owens-Artist. Bill Groves, Congressman Duncan Hunter, Darrell Beck, Dotty Cronin, Jessica Hickman, Mary Halliday, Rick Bellows, Rick Terrazas and Walter Ainsley donated additional prizes.

A number of booths participated at the Bow Wow Pow Wow offering information and/or an opportunity for adoption. These included Second Chance Dog Rescue, Coastal German Shepherd Rescue, San Diego Department of Animal Services and Emergency Animal Rescue. Kahoots Animals & Supplies had a wonderful display as well as EasyTurf. We also had the Kiwanis Food Booth offering food and refreshment throughout the day.

Rodeo Queen Sarah Baughman and Jr. Queen Megan Buckley presented the ribbons, provided photo opportunities for our winners, and assisted emcee Bob Hailey. Kiwanis sponsored Cub Scout Pack #679 opened the show with a flag presentation.

Thank you to Ramona Outdoor Community Center for use of the beautiful grounds, Stater Brothers and Albertsons for posted advertising, and Ramona Sentinel for covering our event.

Approximately 55 dogs entered one or more of the fun categories. Best in Show was awarded to Shorty, a Basset/Golden Retriever mix. He also won Most Handsome Male Dog and the Best Tail Wagger category.  The judges said he displayed a winning attitude. Surely, he made his companion Paul Zawilenski proud.

We hope to see you and “your best friends” at next year’s Bow Wow Pow Wow.
