In 1993, she became president and served until 1994. In 1997, she took on even more daunting tasks when she began writing two columns for the local papers. “Between the Bookends” and “Bridging the Gap” informed the community about upcoming events at the library.

Then she began editing the Friendly Waves newsletter, which she would manually type, cut and paste before taking it to the local printer. She continued in this capacity until 2010.

Avonelle made a huge difference in our community. She helped to make our new library a reality. Avonelle is the heart and soul of our new library. When I see people smile in our library, I think of Avonelle.

The Friends will miss Avonelle, who has moved from Ramona to live near her daughter. The community will as well, because Avonelle saw the dream, and now we do, too.

Take care, dearest Friend.
