Sixty-five girls from Ramona Girls Softball participated in the tournament. The parents of the girls participating volunteered in several capacities to ensure that the tournament went well.

The fields were in great condition. The crowds were big and the softball and sportsmanship were excellent. The only problem this writer saw was the parking lots were full, which is a great problem to have.

In addition to a fully stocked snack bar, several vendors set up tents and trailers to service the crowds. Nicole Ward was tournament director.

Ramona entered one team in the 8U division, two teams in the 10U division and two teams in the 12U division.

In the 12U division, Ramona Gold won both of its games in pool play, outscored its opponents 22-0 and received the number one seed in the playoff bracket on Sunday. The Gold lost to Tierra Canyon in the semifinal game.

Ramona Silver got the seven seed and lost to number two seed Alpine.

In the 10U division, Ramona Gold won both of its games in pool play and received the number three seed, and Ramona Silver got the seven seed in the 10 team winner’s bracket. They advanced to the championship game and lost a hard fought 3-2 battle to Imperial Beach.

In the 8U division, Ramona Gold went 2-0 in pool play and got the number two seed in the playoff bracket. They beat Coastal Bay Gold 6-2 to advance to the semifinal game. They finished the tourney by beating Lakeside in the third place game 5-3.

Coaches, parents and players agreed that the Valley of the Sun Tournament was a great ending to a great season.
