Nearly 70 compete in Ramona WPRA-approved 4D barrel race

Nearly 70 barrel racers competed in a four-division format at the Ramona Outdoor Community Center on Saturday.

The May 14 barrel race the weekend before the Ramona Rodeo was approved by the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association, so the points of a WPRA member or permitholder count toward the state rankings.

The event was hosted by the Ramona Rodeo Committee, and the efforts of Selena Roberts led to Bernardo Winery donating headstalls for the winners of each division.

Mary Ellen Hannon of Westmorland won the 1D championship. Ramona’s Lisa Guasti-Robinson was the 2D winner, Lisa Marie Miller of Aguanga posted the top 3D time, and Ramona’s Jeannie Malone along with her green horse had the best 4D performance. Oceanside’s Jenna Gritt won the youth division with Ramona’s Alexis Awrey placing second.
