High school thespians stage night of one acts

Mountain Valley Academy High School Drama Department invites the community to “A Night of One Act Plays” in the performing arts center at Olive Pierce Middle School on May 5-7.

Shows will be May 5 and 6 at 7 p.m. and May 7 at 7 p.m., with a matinee show at 2.

Tickets will be sold at the door for $5 per person and $25 per family of 5 or more. Food and beverages will be sold at intermission.

The production features four completely unique plays: “The Butler Did It,” “Great Smokies,” “Writer’s Block” and “Paris Sets the Styles.”

“The Butler Did It” is a clever parody on every murder mystery ever written. With its classic clichés and mistaken identities, it will have the audience laughing and suspicious of every character onstage.

It stars Benet Landon, Alexis Negam, Brandon Brixey, Shannon Brocar, Casey Travis, Victoria Nored, John Jones, Dominick Dicataldo, Meaghan Duvalian and Sean Richard.

“Great Smokies” is a story of Percival Schlepper, a hillbilly widower and his not so young young ‘uns pulling crazy antics to convince Daisy Snodgrass, the widow from Gunpowder Junction, to marry him. The hillbilly actors are Sean Richard, Jennifer Lane, Casey Travis, Lexie Machado, Leah Tabert, Sorcha McCleese, Olivia Springfield and John Jones.

“Writer’s Block” is a humorous night at the local small-town group therapy session. Actors are Kristen Benndorff, Lexie Machado, Sorcha McClees, Victoria Nored, Sandra Unruh, Luke Landon, John Jones, Emily McCubbin, Britney Lawrence and Brandon Brixey.

“Paris Sets the Styles” takes place at a posh little hat shop in New York City. With her fake French accent, the saleswoman works her magic on one of the upper class regulars. Actors are Shannon Brocar and Meghan Duvalian. “A night at the theater is always a fun occasion for the entire family so let us entertain you while you kick back and have a laugh,” the high school thespians say in their invitation.
