Republican women host Hunter

Duncan L. Hunter will speak at Ramona's Republican Women's lunch.

Former Congressman Duncan L. Hunter will be the guest speaker when Intermountain Republican Women Federated meets in the San Vicente Inn, 24157 San Vicente Road, on Tuesday, April 26.

As chairman of the House Armed Services Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2003-07, Hunter presided over a $500 billion budget and was a leading architect of American national security apparatus. Hunter, concerned about the security of the U.S. border, wrote the legislation that resulted in more than 400 miles of border fence being constructed between the U.S. and Mexico.

In the 52nd District that Hunter represented in San Diego County, crime in San Diego dropped by more than 53 percent after construction of the double fence between San Diego and Tijuana.

In Congress, Hunter was described by Business Week magazine as “the man who drove a tank through Congress” for his reputation as a defense leader who refused to compromise when he believed national security was threatened. Hunter, an Army veteran and a California Republican who served in the House of Representatives for 28 years, is releasing his book, “Victory in Iraq: How America Won,” later this month. The goal, he said, is to highlight the heroics of troops who served in the combat zone. Intermountain Republican Women Federated welcomes members, spouses and guests from Ramona, Julian, Santa Ysabel and surrounding areas. The meeting will start at 10:45 a.m. Cost is $15.
