Swim lessons start June 21 at community pool
With Ramona students ending the school year this week and temperatures rising, eyes are turning toward swimming.
The goal for parents every summer is to make sure their children are water safe, and that’s what Floaties Swim School brings to the community.
Swim America for the past few years has focused on providing quality swimming lessons for a reasonable price. When Swim America approached Mike and Karyn Morrill of Floaties in Poway to take over the summer swim program at the Ramona Community Pool, they accepted with enthusiasm.
The Morrills’ outlook on swimming is that every child needs to have the opportunity to learn how to swim in a comfortable environment, and that’s what they will be bringing to Ramona on June 21.
There will be two sessions for the swim lessons. The first session will start on June 21 and end July 16, and the second session will start July 19 and end Aug. 13.
Classes will be held at Ramona Community Pool at Ramona High School. Children can learn to swim at their own rate by moving independently of one another in Floaties unique “stations” system.
An overall coach to swimmer ratio of 1:2 is maintained for preschool and 1:4 for school age station.
Children ages 6 to 18 who can complete two lengths of the pool front crawl and back crawl without stopping may be interested in the Floaties Tritons Competitive Swim Team or Heartland Swim Association Summer Association League Program. Experts agree that, unless a child can swim 300 yards of freestyle, the child cannot swim well enough to save his or her life.
Preschool, school age and diving classes of 30 minutes are scheduled.
Morning and afternoon sessions for preschool and school age classes are scheduled. Diving classes will be offered at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.
Preschool and diving classes are $13 per 30-minute lesson, and school age classes are $11 per 30-minute lesson. Lessons may be taken one day a week or two, three or four days a week.
