Woman faces sentencing for drug charge

A 52-year-old woman who was arrested in Ramona for possession of methamphetamine in her van and then forfeited her $20,000 bond by not showing up for court has been arrested and awaits sentencing on April 28.
Kellie Ann Parkhurst, of Lakeside, was arrested by sheriff’s deputies on Feb. 6 after a warrant was issued for her arrest for not showing up for arraignment on Oct. 8, 2009, in El Cajon Superior Court.
Parkhurst pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine that Ramona deputies found in her van on Sept. 29 in the 700 block of F Street. She has also picked up a new felony case that will also be heard on April 28.
Court records show she faces a maximum 15-year prison term and a $20,000 fine. Parkhurst wrote in a court document that she unlawfully possessed methamphetamine for sale and that she had been free on bail in a previous narcotics case.
Judge John Thompson denied bail for Parkhurst and she remains in the Las Colinas Women’s Detention Facility. She has a prior drug conviction from 2001.
