Rants and Raves
RAVE: Kudos to Olive Peirce Middle School for its fifth annual Civil War Living History. What a great way to teach history through active participation and interactivity. Schools need to do more of this.
RANT: Another delay in the trial of James Kurtenbach, as he has yet another attorney. These stall tactics will only last so long and then justice will be served.
RAVE: Ramona High School’s “Every 15 Minutes” program presentation. If the real consequences of drinking and driving can get through to even just a handful of kids, lives will be saved.
RANT: The fact that anyone could ask the judge for probation in the case of Melvin Pearles, who got a four-year sentence for excessive speed resulting in the death of Alexandra McKiernan-Drake, or that Katrina Flippin is only charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter (maximum one year sentence) in the connection of the death of Mark Anthony when she did a U-turn in front of Olive Peirce Middle School while driving with a suspended license and no proof of car insurance.
RAVE: To all of the participants and volunteers at the 18th Annual Adaptive PE Track Meet. The smiles on the faces of those competing were awesome.
RANT: Until Ramona decides it wants to be a city, stop the complaining on how the county votes on issues that impact Ramona. All the local committees and planning group can do is offer opinions and recommendations, then the county will do whatever it wants. So we either accept it and move on, or make a decision to take control; you can’t have it both ways.
RAVE: Congrats to the Ramona/Julian Academy of Dance who earned top awards at their first competition of the year. Also to all of the Ramona High Spring sports teams, who are proving once again that Ramona High is a school to be reckoned with.
RANT/RAVE: Rant to our current laws regarding sex offenders. Rave to Chelsea King’s courageous parents, who are fighting for a change to make the penalties much harsher. This needs to happen!
