Preparing for Parade of Hats

Members of the Ramona Women’s Connection invite the community to get ready for spring by putting their hats on and joining them in at the San Vicente Inn for a Parade of Hats on March 10 at 9:30 a.m.
“Our special guest, ‘Miss Lillie’ Knauls will be singing, sharing her life story and wants you to wear your favorite spring bonnet,” said Marlene Robershaw of the women’s group.
“Miss Lillie” will be judging and giving prizes for some of the most outstanding hats. Best known in the professional music world as the “Hat Lady,” Knauls’ trademark of hats began when she was singing in the Gaither Vocal Band on television, said Robershaw.
Knaul’s professional singing career began in 1970, when she sang with the Edwin Hawkins singers, whose hit song “O Happy Day.” It was the first Gospel song to cross- over to the secular charts and sold over 1 million copies. She also recorded her first album in 1975.
From there, Knaul performed in the Gaither Vocal Band on television for over 15 years. In 2000, she was inducted into the “Gospel Music Hall of Fame,” and in 2007, at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, she was awarded the “Dove Award” for the Traditional Gospel Album of the year.
During her program in Ramona, she will also be sharing her story, “Contrasting Joy with Happiness.” All are welcome to come and bring a friend or meet a new one—”and don’t forget to wear a hat.”
This will be a breakfast brunch. Cost of the morning event is $10. Festivities  will be in the San Vicente Room at the San Vicente Inn at 24157 San Vicente Road.
For reservations, please call 760-788-1378 or  760-788-1348.
