Basketball team nets 3 wins

   Coach Ken Scheib’s Bulldogs won three varsity boys basketball Valley League games as they beat Valley Center on the road in a makeup game and then defeated Oceanside on the coast before returning to Ramona to beat Orange Glen.
   The Dawgs are now 13-11 on the season and are in the hunt in the Valley League with a 6-3 mark.
   Ramona controlled the tempo at Valley Center and never trailed. They led 17-7 in the first period and built a 36-25 lead at half on their way to a 74-57 win.
   Andrew Alcaraz started a big week by leading all scorers with 22 points. Jared Engler scored 19 points and led both teams with seven rebounds. He also blocked three shots.
   Bryson Garcia tallied in double digits with 10 points and grabbed five rebounds. Zach Windes scored 9 points and contributed three assists.
   Keith Scheib had a game high seven assists and scored 5 points. Kwayde Miller made his presence felt in the paint by blocking three shots and scoring 5 points. Josh Leiber (2) and Travis Stevens (2) also scored for the Dawgs.
   Ramona took a 36-22 lead into the locker room at Oceanside, but the Pirates came out in the third period and made a game out of it. The Pirates outscored Ramona 28-11 in the third period to take a 50-47 lead into the final eight minutes.
   “We didn’t come out in the third period ready to play,” said Scheib. “They scored 6 points in 45 seconds and took control of the momentum. We put Keith (Scheib) on Julius Woodfork and he kept him in check. We played like we should in the fourth quarter and came back to win.”
   Ramona outscored the Pirates 21-12 in the final period to post a 68-62 come from behind win.
   Engler posted a double-double by scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Alcaraz (14) and Windes (16) also scored in double figures. 
   Garcia scored 9 points and grabbed  a game high 16 rebounds. Scheib (2) Leiber (3) and Adam Watson (3) also scored.
   The Dawgs finished the week at home in front of the Ramona Rowdies led Orange Glen from the opening tip-off until the final buzzer. Coach Scheib was able to clear his bench midway through the first period as he substituted freely with the same results, as Ramona outplayed the Pats.
   Alcaraz finished the week with an offensive showcase. The senior shooting guard scored a season high 31 points as he connected on five 3-point shots. He also grabbed six boards and dished off four assists.
   Engler also scored in double figures with 16 points and seven rebounds and three blocked shots. Windes had six boards and five steals as he scored 4 points.
   Garcia and Miller shared time in the paint and each scored 9 points. Garcia had six boards and Miller had four and a blocked shot. Scheib contributed five assists and scored 2 points. Leiber (3) and Watson also scored for the Dawgs
