Flooding problem close to resolution
The problem of occasional severe flooding in the back parking lot of Quail Run Apartments at 411 14th St., may be over—thanks to an unexpected solution.
As the Sentinel reported last week, the heavy rains of Dec. 7 left some cars in the parking lot in water as high as the seats, and made it very difficult for some tenants to reach their apartments.
This flooding was caused by a concrete drainage channel that runs across the property and through an adjoining vacant lot, where the channel is blocked by weeds and trash, said Maria Navarro, who supervises the complex for Kleege Enterprises in Del Mar. Repeated attempts over the years to locate the owner of the lot and get the channel cleaned have not been successful.
After the most recent flooding, Navarro was hopeful that the County Department of Public Works would step in and force a clean-up. But talks last week weren’t going very well, when Navarro receved some really good news.
“We found out that the man doesn’t own the lot any more. It was repossessed by a bank in La Jolla two weeks ago,” she said. “The owner here has talked to someone at the bank, who said they would look at it immediately.
“We have finally found someone who has the authority to do something. We are so pleased.”
Navarro said she expects that officials from 1st Pacific Bank of California will “move really fast” to solve the problem.
“Our channel is super clean with nothing in it right to the property line” with the vacant lot, Navarro said.
Now, before the next rain, she is looking forward to the rest of the channel being equally spotless.
