Rewards offered in Chevron, Arco robberies
For the second time in less than a month, San Diego County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of an armed robber in Ramona.
The first offer of a reward came in late October, when Crime Stoppers joined forces with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department to help apprehend the suspect responsible for a robbery outside the Arco am/pm store at 1015 Main St. on Oct. 22.
The second reward offer came last Wednesday, when Crime Stoppers and sheriff’s detectives in Ramona asked for help in identifying and apprehending the suspect, armed with a rifle, who attempted to rob the Chevron gas station at 802 Main St. about 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 16.
The Chevron cashier, a 47-year-old man, refused to give the suspect money and wrestled with the robber. Video from the store’s surveillance cameras was released by the sheriff’s department and aired on local television stations last week. The clerk suffered minor injuries to his head, face, jaw and left hand. The suspect fled on foot.
The suspect is described as 18 to 21 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall with a thin build. He was wearing a black jacket, grey mask with eye holes cut out and dark pants. The jacket and mask were later found near the scene.
The suspect in the robbery outside the Arco station on Oct. 22 is described as a white male from 20 to 22 years old, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 135 to 140 pounds and having a muscular but slender build. He has blue eyes and wore a beige or light grey hooded sweatshirt.
In the Arco robbery, the suspect opened the victim’s car door and simulated he had a gun in his waistband while demanding money. The victim fled on foot after getting an undisclosed amount of money from the victim.
Anyone with informationb about either incident is asked to call Detective Mike McNeill at the Ramona Substation at 760-789-9157.
