Miramar Air Show benefits Marines and their families

Crowds are coming out in record numbers to air shows across the country this year, and air show attendance this year is expected to reach approximately 14 million people, an increase of 20 percent from 2008, according to officials at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miramar.
The MCAS Miramar Air Show kicks off Friday, Oct. 2, and will again feature the U.S. Navy Blue Angels jet demonstration team. For the first time, the Canadian Snowbirds, a nine-plane military jet demonstration team, will take to the skies above San Diego.
Despite the fact that air shows showcase millions of dollars of aircraft and some of the most highly trained pilots in the world, they are said to be among the most cost-efficient family entertainment alternatives available today.
“Air shows are always popular with the public, but never more so than during difficult economic times,” said John Cudahy, president of the International Council of Air Shows, an air show industry trade group. “Attendance spiked during the recessions of 1980-1982 and 1990-1991.”
The MCAS Miramar Air Show is open to the public with free general admission and parking. Preferred seating starts at $8.50 for for adult grandstand seats and $5.25 for children.
For more information about this year’s MCAS Miramar Air Show, visit the Web site at www.miramarairshow.com. Special military discounts apply to preferred ticket sales for the Oct. 2 show and may be purchased at the MCAS Miramar Entertainment Ticket Office.
Preferred seating may be purchased online at www.miramarairshow.com or by calling 1-877-772-5425. Proceeds from the Miramar Air Show benefit Marines and their families’ Quality of Life programs.
