Pee Wee Dawg Pack starts season with 2 wins
Ramona Pop Warner Pee Wee Dawg Pack, led by Coach Paul Michaelis, is off to great start, winning the first two games of the season.
Last week the Pee Wee Dawg Pack had a victory over Rancho Penasquitas, 26-0. During the game, defensive tackle Gerry Rios recovered a fumble as did middle line backer Grady Vasquez, who took the fumble and ran it into the end zone for one of the Dawg Pack’s scores.
Other scores were made by running backs Tyler Vargas and Sean Stemm.
This week the Dawg Pack took on Torrey Pines and beat the Falcons 16-0. The first quarter was played between the 40-yard lines as neither team could put together a drive.
The Falcons started to move the ball in the second quarter but a fumble recovery by Blake Workman stopped them from scoring. During the second quarter, the Dawg’s offense came alive. Quarterback Garret Binkley, using wide receivers Erik Schmidt, Tyler Vargas and Max Edwards moved the ball down field.
Running backs Tyler Vargas and Shawn Stemm ran the ball to move the Dawgs close to the end zone. Fullback Adam Paredes carried the ball into the end zone for the first score of the game. The point after attempt was no good and the half ended with the Dawg Pack up 6-0.
During the third quarter, the Falcons intercepted a pass on the Dawg Pack 10. The defense, with tremendous pressure by Josh Clack, Troy Jordon and Grady Vasquez, pushed the Falcons to the one yard line.
Defensive tackle Jacob Buckley sealed the deal and tackled the Falcon quarterback in the end zone for a safety.
The Falcons tried to come back. but the Dawg Pack defense was too tough.
Pass coverage by Raul Briseno and Erik Schmidt kept the Falcons from gaining passing yards. Cornerbacks Ben Stein and Drew Robinson chased down the Falcon running backs. A fumble recovery by outside linebacker Noah Groves gave the ball back to the Dawgs.
The final touchdown of the game came when Binkley took the ball into the end zone on a quarterback sneak. The point after kick by Tyler Vargas was good.
