Lorne Smith joins John Rathbun on RHS girls golf coaching staff
John Rathbun is entering his second season as the head coach of the Lady Bulldogs golf team. He has a new assistant, club professional Lorne Smith, and he is very optimistic.
“I am encouraged by the performance that we have seen so far,” said Rathbun after 11 girls completed the first week of practice.
Five juniors are out for the squad: Kelsie Domnitz, Kelsey Perry, Catie Sundberg, Dana Barnat and Ashley Ramirez.
Domnitz is back for her third varsity campaign. Perry, Sundberg and Ramirez are up from the junior varsity. Barnat is out for the first time.
Four sophomores are out for the team: Kia Turner, Emily Vandervort, Kambria Fitting and Ally Harvey. Fitting, Harvey and Turner earned letters last season. Vandervort is new to the team.
Two freshwomen, Tori Poplin and Andrea Gaona, are on the squad.
The Lady Dawgs don’t have a match scheduled until Sept. 10, when they start Valley League action at Valley Center. The Lady Dawgs play their home matches at San Vicente Golf Resort.
