A Ramona man who was killed in an fiery explosion of a house belonging
to his boss, James Kurtenbach, died very quickly after receiving what a
doctor described as “terminal burns” over 85 percent of his body,
according to court testimony this week.
The body of Joseph Nesheiwat, 24, was found prone outside the vacant
home at 16421 N. Woodson Drive on Oct. 31, 2008. Nesheiwat worked for
Kurtenbach, 48, at his Stars Gas Station in Ramona. Kurtenbach is
charged with murder, arson, insurance fraud and tax evasion in a
12-count complaint.
Dr. Glenn Wagner, the county’s chief medical examiner who performed the
autopsy on Nesheiwat, told El Cajon Superior Court Judge Louis Hanoian
he found soot in the victim’s nose, lungs and stomach.

Two-time world champion steer wrestler Luke Branquinho will be among
contestants vying for top prize money at the 29th Annual Ramona Rodeo.
Branquinho will compete in the Saturday night show, the second of three
Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) rodeo performances hosted
by the Ramona Outdoor Community Center (ROCC). Friday and Saturday
rodeos will start at 7:30 p.m. in the ROCC Fred Grand Arena at 421 Aqua
Lane in Ramona

In May 2009, Jack VanderLans stands second in the All-Around standings
of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association’s (PRCA) California
Circuit. In May 2001, VanderLans filled his PRCA permit at what was
then called the Ramona Round-Up Rodeo.
VanderLans received $1,301.42 in earnings from the Ramona Round-Up Rodeo, which was held May 18-20 that year.

Signups for the Ramona Rodeo’s first Cowboy Barbecue Cookoff will be accepted until 5 p.m. Friday, May 29.
The cookoff is slated for Saturday, May 30, in the stage area of the
rodeo grounds, It will feature entered teams competing for prize money
in three different categories.
At noon on Saturday, the teams will turn in their pork ribs to the
judges. They will turn in pork shoulders at 1 p.m. and beef brisket at
2 p.m.

It was a perfect end to a perfect season for the Olive Peirce Middle
School Lady Bulldogs as they took home the championship in a stunning
42-19 victory.
Led by coaches Julie Doria and Marc Boykins, the team was undefeated
all season and played a near perfect game against Fallbrook’s Potter
Intermediate School.
