Registration deadline for special election is May 4

Citizens planning to vote in the statewide special election on May 19 must be registered to vote by May 4.
The ballot features six initiatives proposed by the governor and legislature that would change the state budget process. Residents in Coronado will also vote to fill a  city council vacancy.
“We encourage people to check their registration information on our Web site to find out if it is  updated,” said Registrar of Voters Deborah Seiler.
Voters will need to fill out a form if they are not currently registered, have recently moved or  changed their name.
To check registration status online, visit www.sdvote.com.
Forms are  available on the Registrar’s Web site, the Registrar of Voters office, post offices,  public libraries, the Department of Motor Vehicles and city clerks’ office.
The Registrar of Voters will be open until 9 p.m. on Monday, May 4, to accept registration  forms.  All forms must be postmarked on or before May 4.
Another important deadline for voters is Tuesday, May 12, the last day to request a mail  ballot. Voters may get a mail ballot application at www.sdvote.com, or send a request to the Registrar  of Voters including their name, residence address, name and date of the election for which a ballot  is requested, the address where the ballot is to be mailed and your signature.  The address is P.O. Box 85520, San Diego, CA 92186-5520. The fax is 858-694-2955.

By state law, mail ballot applications must be physically received by the Registrar of Voters  no later than 5 p.m. on May 12.  They cannot be simply postmarked on that date.
For more election information, contact the Registrar of Voters at 858-565-5800 or visit  www.sdvote.com.
