Golf team remains undefeated in league
The Bulldog golf team had its busiest week of the season as it remained undefeated in the Valley League.
The Dawgs won two matches outright and tied two matches. They won one of the ties in a tie breaker and lost a tie on the tie breaker. The Dawgs finished the week 15-2 overall and are a perfect 9-0 in league matches.
Ramona’s varsity golf team beat Oceanside High School on the Pirate’s home course 187-232.
Joe Fotunato and Josh Haynes shared medalist honors with Oceanside’s Daniel White. All three golfers shot a one under par 35 on Oceanside Municipal Golf Course, which at one time was proposed to be the home of the San Diego Chargers.
White was the only Pirate to play his opponent even. Haynes or Fotunato beat the Pirates number two, Jake Sullivan, by 11 strokes. Brian Moberg’s 37 beat his counterpart by 13 strokes.
Drew Massey’s 38 bested Oceanside’s number four by 12 strokes. Garrett Arnold shot a 42 to best his foe by nine shots. Jake Lohman’s 42 was 30 strokes better than his foe.
Ramona had a close match with Orange Glen that was decided by the tie breaker. In golf, six golfers from each team play a round. Only the top five scores from each team are counted unless the score is tied. In case of a tie, the sixth golfer’s score from each team counts.
Orange Glen’s Mitchell Snow won the medalist honors by shooting a 37 on the par 36 front nine at Double Tree Resort. Johnny Lafata and Massey both shot 38. Glendon Barnum contributed a 41. Arnold and Fotunato both shot 43.
Orange Glen’s number five shot a 45. The score was tied at 203 using the score of the top five golfers. Orange Glen did not have a sixth golfer and Ramona’s Tyler Harvey shot a 44 to ensure the Valley League victory.
Ramona squared off in a non-league match with perennial power St. Augustine. Ramona beat Saints earlier in the season at San Vicente Golf Course so Ramona had to travel to Riverwalk Golf Course.
The Dawgs recorded their second tie in two matches, but this time they lost the tie breaker. Ironically, they posted their best score of the year in the 187-187 tie/loss to the Saints.
Moberg earned medalist honors by shooting a torrid two under par 34 on the front nine. Massey fired an even par 36. Haynes and Lafata both shot in the 70s. Haynes shot 37. Lafata shot 38.
Christian Rajcic shot a 42 and otunato shot 44.
Ramona continued its dominance of the Valley League by beating San Marcos 208-238 at SVGC.
Every Bulldog beat his counterpart in head-to-head action. Moberg earned medalist honors by shooting an even par 36 on the front nine. Barnum fired a 39. Rajcic shot 42. Haynes contributed a 43.
Harvey’s 48 beat his foe by six strokes. Fotunato’s 49 was the sixth score and was not counted in the scoring.
