Ramona wins 2, loses 1 in baseball tourney
The Bulldogs opened the North County Times Tournament with a seventh inning come-from-behind win over Carlsbad. The Dawgs won 7-6.
Cody Willingham got the start and cruised through the Lancer lineup the first three innings. Ramona led 4-0 going into the top of the fourth. With two down, the Bulldog defense surrendered four runs only two were earned.
The Dawgs took the lead in the bottom of the fourth, but the Lancers scored an earned run in the fifth to take the lead.
Trailing 6-4 in the bottom of the seventh, Ramona rallied. With one down Brady Wilson doubled. With two down, Alex Muren received an intentional walk.
Smiley Willeford delivered an RBI single to tie the score. Ian Hunt was given a free pass to first base to load the bases. Freshman Jackson Willeford was hit by a pitch to force in the winning run.
Muren had a great day at the dish. He went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a home run. Wilson, Smiley and Hunt also had two-hit games. Drake Blake, Jackson, and Mike Studley also contributed hits to the win.
Studley picked up the win in relief going the final two innings.
Erik Ernst made the defensive play of the day robbing a Lancer hitter of an extra base hit and two RBIs with a running catch on a slicing line drive in right field.
Muren had another big day in Ramona’s 8-3 win over Torrey Pines on the road. Muren went the distance on the mound to pick up the win giving up two runs on five hits and fanning ten.
Muren went 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs. He hit his fourth home run of the season.
Wilson went 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Drake, Kyle Gray, Hunt, James Nicholson, Studley, Jackson and Smiley also stroked hits for the Dawgs. Smiley drove in two runs.
Poway handed the Dawgs their first loss in the tourney by beating the Dawgs 7-1. Poway’s pitching staff limited the Bulldogs to three hits.
Muren picked up two hits going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Hunt picked up the Dawgs other hit with a single in the single in the second inning.
