By Sarah Lee
Ramona High School’s symphonic band, jazz band and color guard are in the midst of the spring concert season.
On March 12, the symphonic band participated in a festival at Eastlake High School and received a unanimous Superior rating from the judges. Sixteen other bands and orchestras particpated. Ramona musicians performed three concert tunes before an audience and three judges. They then went to a sight-reading room and played an unrehearsed piece before another judge.
Superior is the highest rating. Other ratings are excellent, good, fair, and poor.
The symphonic band will be showcased in the Spring Concert at the high school at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25. Admission is $5 per person. Among the musical selection will be what the students played at the festival: Cajun Folk Songs, Ave Maria and Sea Songs.
The RHS Band & Orchestra Festival will be on Friday, March 27. Admission is free.
On Wednesday, April 1, the symphonic band will participate in the Band and Orchestra Festival in Poway.
The jazz band will have its time in the spotlight as well. The jazz musicians placed second at the Mayfair High School Festival and received an Excellent rating at the Western States Jazz Festival, where they tied for fifth place.
The Jazz Spring Concert will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 3. Admission is $5 per person.
Then on Saturday, April 18, the symphonic and jazz bands will participate in the All District Band and Choir Concert.
