In April 1981, posters went up all over Ramona inviting the community
to a Passover Seder. It was being hosted by two couples, Sandy and
Fred Arsham and Marcia and Al Wollner, who had no idea how many people
to expect, because no one knew how many Jewish families there were in
the area.
To their surprise, over 60 people flocked to the potluck celebration.
Cantor Al Wollner conducted that first service. The people who attended
formed the nucleus of a new Reform Jewish congregation, which they
named Etz Chaim (Tree of Life) and whose monthly Sabbath services were
held in the sanctuary of St. Mary’s in the Valley Episcopal Church.

n the age of technological innovation, one would think a library
couldn’t keep up. Between the competitive search engines and online
encyclopedias, why would today’s students ever need a book, let alone
an entire building devoted to them?
Well, don’t count out the evolving art form, especially Ramona High
School’s. Despite the budget cuts, tech booms and hard economic times,
it is thriving.

Various impact fees collected by the County of San Diego from
developers can now be paid before final inspection rather than at the
issuance of a building permit.
Although that deferral will allow the developer rather than the county
to collect the interest, which accrues during the deferral period, the
benefits to the developer may spur activity that would keep San Diego
County residents employed. A 5-0 county Board of Supervisors vote this
month approved the first reading and introduction of the ordinance
amendment, sending the revision to the supervisors March 25 for a
second reading and adoption.
“We have done a lot to stimulate local conditions,” said Supervisor Ron Roberts.

will place a 60-day annual limit on holiday lights and will eliminate

earthquake standards be brought into compliance or torn down.
The San Diego County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the changes that will take effect April 3.
For the most part the changes were cleanups that affected language or placement.

County Softball Tournament as they continued to get strong pitching and

The Lady Dawgs opened the tourney with a 2-0 loss to Torrey Pines.
Kelly deGraff continued to pitch well for the Lady Dawgs, but the
Ramona offense could not push a run across the plate.
“We hit, but we could not get down a bunt when we needed to move runners. That cost us,” said Coach Robin Brainard.
DeGraff went six innings and gave up two runs on six hits. She struck out four.
