Ramona High School’s Bulldog wrestling team took third place in the
Division III CIF Meet on Saturday. Eleven Bulldog grapplers qualified
to advance to the Masters Meet.

Two losses keep boys soccer out of playoffs

Ramona High School boys soccer Coach Michael Jordan knew  that the
Bulldogs would need to win at least one of their final three games to
have an outside chance of a berth in the CIF  Division II
playoffs.
Ramona lost all three of those games, so the 2008-09 season ended with
a three-game losing streak and a 6-14-1 overall  record, including a
3-9 Valley League mark.
“When we play well, we can hang with any team in the county,”  Jordan said.  “We just can’t do it for a full 80 minutes.”

15th-seeded Bulldog girls lose water polo playoff

Losing a first-round CIF Division II playoff match to second-seeded
Bishop’s Feb. 18 didn’t bother Ramona High School girls water polo
Coach Donnie Williams as much as Ramona’s No. 15 seed that set up the
first-round game at Bishop’s.
“I was really disappointed with the 15th seed,” said Williams. “That was the hardest thing to swallow.”
Ramona’s 15-12 overall regular-season record included an overtime
shootout win over Mission Bay in the East County Invite tournament.

‘Get Away From It All’ with PONY Baseball

Last year, Ramona PONY Baseball themed its season a “Salute to Our
Heroes” to honor those who have served our country, and also those who
helped with the sports fields that were damaged by the Witch Fire.
This year, they are encouraging everyone to “Get Away From It All,” as
PONY Baseball provides a great escape from the stress and struggles
affecting people these days. Forget about your worries, and invest a
couple of hours in some fun. It’s a chance to relax, meet new people
and watch kids enjoy playing the national pastime.

State proposes housing Hedge next to Donovan prison

California Department of Mental Health today proposed housing sexually
violent predator Matthew Hedge at property  adjacent to R.J. Donovan
State Prison in the Otay Mesa area of San Diego County.
This is the second proposed location for Hedge. The initial
recommendation in Ramona was withdrawn when the property owner, Charles
Koppa of Ramona, declined to rent to the state.
Koppa rescinded his offer to rent his vacant house at 3337 Highway 67
east of Highland Valley Road on Feb. 20, after protests from the
community—including a standing-room-only crowd at the Ramona planning
group meeting last Thursday night—and after Koppa learned more about
Hedge, convicted in 1989 of molesting two boys, 6 and 10 years old, and
two girls, ages 9 and 13.
