Cagers now 5-3 on the season
The Ramona Bulldogs opened the Otay Ranch/ Mater Dei tournament with a 66-62 win over West Hills, a quality opponent. The Dawgs lost to Otay Ranch and Sante Fe Christian in the second and third rounds of the tourney. Ramona is now 5-3 on the season.
Ramona again made the most of the three-point arch by sinking ten three-pointers against West Hills.
Doug McIntosh scored 12 of his 22 points from beyond the arch. Andrew Alcaraz hit four three-point shots as he scored 17 points. Keith Scheib drilled two three-pointers as he scored 13 points. Cameron Kolk (6), Bryson Garcia (4), Jared Engler (2) and Kwayde Miller (2) also scored in the opening round win.
Ramona lost to tournament host, Otay Ranch, 76-58 in the second round of the tournament.
Otay Ranch got off to a 17-12 first period lead and the Dawgs could never take the lead.
Kolk led Ramona in scoring with 16 points. Alcaraz and McIntosh also scored in double figures with 13 and 12 points respectively. In addition, Zach Windes (7), Scheib (3), Miller (2) and Engler (2) scored for the Dawgs. Garland Marshall scored his first points as a Bulldog by hitting his only shot of the game, a three-point goal.
Sante Fe Christian used a weapon that the Dawgs have been very successful with this season, the three-point shot, to edge Ramona 65-64 in the third game of the tourney.
Karl Holmlund hit seven shots from behind the arch as he scored 25 points for Sante Fe Christian.
The game was tied at 17 at the end of the first period. Ramona then controlled the second period and took a 39-25 lead at the half. Ramona led going into the final eight minutes, but Sante Fe Christian outscored the Dawgs 17-6 in the final period to win the game.
Kolk continued to have an excellent tournament as he scored 23 points in the game. McIntosh (15) and Alcaraz (11) also scored in double digits. Engler (8), Marshall (3), Miller (2) and Scheib (2) added to Ramona’s score.
