We All Deserve A Little Fun
With everything that’s happened over the past month with the economy, with the bank failures, the bailout, the roller coaster ride of the stock market, the constant barrage of political advertising and name calling, and, not the least of our worries, another wildfire, we need to escape and enjoy some of the simple pleasures in life — and the 4th annual Ramona Chamber of Commerce Oktoberfest this weekend is just the ticket. In fact, you don’t need a ticket at all to have a great time.
This year’s event will feature Tim Flannery on Saturday night sharing his life experiences through music and song. Most of us know Tim from his 25 years with the Padres organization as a player, minor league manager, coach and broadcaster, and currently third base coach for the SF Giants. Tim just recently released his 8th album and the $5 admission for his show is a steal. Also on tap during the weekend will be a traditional Bavarian Beer Garden Band, Earl Flores “Band Diego,” Baja Boys Blues band, the Cash Kings and a lineup of other entertainment.
Kids will find plenty to do in the pumpkin patch with face painting and more and there will be a pumpkin carving contest as well. For the adults, a Pumpkin Recipe Contest and let’s not forget the Beer & Wine Garden plus great food and fun for the whole family, including a People’s Choice Car Show on Sunday. So put the world on hold for awhile, grab the family and let’s all have some fun!
The Oktoberfest kicks off Friday night and continues through Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Ramona Outdoor Community Center at Fifth & Aqua Lane. Admission is FREE, but if you want to park at the center you’ll need to pay $5 — still a really great deal and parking proceeds benefit nonprofit organizations in town! Hope to see you there.
